The Purpose of the Bylaws and Faculty Code Committee

The Faculty Senate Bylaws and Faculty Code Committee shall be concerned with the continuing study and improvement of the Faculty Senate Bylaws and Faculty Code. It shall receive, review, initiate, and make recommendations or proposals for amendments to both documents to the Senate via the Executive Committee, coordinating its efforts with other individuals, groups or committees as necessary or appropriate. It shall prepare drafts of such amendments and present such drafts to the Senate together with the rationale for such amendments, and do such other similar things as charged by the Senate Executive Committee.

Committee Charges

BFCC25-26.01 - Clarify the Code language for the election of Departmental senators, Department chair, College EC representatives, and Emerit status.

BFCC25-26.02 - Review the Shared Governance document and collaborate with the Executive Committee to make recommendations for how to incorporate these ideals into Code.

BFCC25-26.03 - Review and reevaluate the range of WLU release faculty receive for serving on Senate committees in lieu of changes to support staff. Make recommendations for changes to the Code.

BFCC25-26.04 - Investigate the status of the college budget committees and make recommendations to change the Code.

BFCC25-26.05 - Review and clarify Bylaws language concerning senators who are close to terming out but want to run for EC.

BFCC25-26.06 - Add language to the Bylaws to include a process for disbanding committees that are no longer meeting.

BFCC25-26.07 - Add language to Bylaws outlining a process for situations in which a department does not nominate a senator (senator vacancy).  

BFCC25-26.08 - Continue revising and updating the Distinguished Faculty Awards nomination and submission of materials section of the Code. Establish an efficient way to allow BFCC to communicate with the Distinguished Faculty Awards Selection Committee while maintaining Selection Committee confidentiality.

BFCC25-26.09 - Continue work on the Faculty Emerit section (Code). Emerit benefits/privileges need to be addressed as well as clarification as to why only retired faculty are eligible for emerit status (see CWU policy for awarding of Distinguished Service to retiring CWU staff). 

BFCC25-26.10 - Recommend revisions to Code and Bylaws to improve clarity and fix typos and errors.
