The Purpose of the Academic Affairs Committee
The Faculty Senate Academic Affairs Committee shall be concerned with the study and improvement of academic standards, academic policies, and academic organizational structures. The committee shall review and recommend changes to academic policy (section five of the CWU Policies manual, Academic Policies). It shall perform other duties as may be requested by or approved by the Senate Executive Committee.

Committee Governance & Responsibilities
Committee Charges
AAC25-26.01 - Review the report made by the 3-year Degree CAT Team and the NWCCU 3-year degree recommendations. In collaboration with the Registrar, make policy recommendations for CWU 501-11 as necessary.
AAC25-26.02 - Develop a Generative AI Policy to provide general guidelines around the use of Generative AI to grade student work.
AAC25-26.03 - Review withdrawal and hardship withdrawal policies [CWU 501-20(13) and CWU 501-20(14)] and make potential policy recommendations concerning: 1) Should we allow a certain number of total withdrawals up until the end of the quarter? 2) Can we get better criteria/messaging over what counts as a hardship withdrawal?
AAC25-26.04 - Review the waitlist policies [CWU 501-20(5)] and collaborate with the Registrar’s office. Make potential policy recommendations concerning: 1) How many days should a waitlist auto-enroll students? 2) What should happen after waitlists stop auto-enrolling students?
AAC25-26.05 - Clarify and codify class attendance policy as it relates to student athletes. Aligning with changes AAC made to CWU 501-20 (38) in AY25.
AAC25-26.06 - Review all CWU 501-20 and, specifically, the Academic Dishonesty and Academic Suspension policies and procedures for “Dean of Student Success.” Recommend what position should oversee these appeals since we no longer have a Dean of Student Success.
AAC25-26.07 - Codify that an individual faculty member has a right to assign grades in accordance with the policies listed on their syllabi.
AAC25-26.08 - Review any available data concerning academic dishonesty related to usage of generative AI.
AAC25-26.09 - Revise proposed Student Conduct in Academic Settings Policy, CWUP 5-90-080/CWUR 2-90-080, so that it separates components between the realms of Academic Policy (CWU 501) and Student Success (CWU 801).
