One of several higher education institutions in Brisbane, Queensland University of Technology (QUT) traces its history as far back as 1849 and, today, is one of Australia's top universities, known for research in a variety of disciplines. It is home to such research units as the Dementia Collaborative Research Centre, the Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation, the Institute for Creative Industries and Innovation and the Institute for Sustainable Resources, among others.

The university has two campuses, the central Gardens Point and Kelvin Grove just to the north. They are linked by a free bus service, and the 10-minute ride makes it feasible for students to take classes on both campuses.

QUT has strong STEM, Criminology and Arts programs, including natural sciences, health sciences and fashion. Its business school is AACSB-accredited. With a full broadcast studio on-campus (sometimes used by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation), QUT's Journalism and Broadcasting programs are some of the best in Australia.
