Program Description

The major in Sport Management is designed for students interested in pursuing a career in the sports industry. The sports industry in the U.S. now generates revenues that exceed $200 billion annually. Accordingly, the number and type of career opportunities associated with sports continue to grow. Classroom learning, combined with experiential learning gained through practicums and internships, will allow students who earn a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management to position themselves for success in entry-level positions in a variety of sport-related occupations.

Recommended: a general marketing course, a general business leadership course, and an introduction to sport management course, if offered. If taken, these courses will be used toward core or elective requirements in the major but can be completed at CWU if necessary.

The Transfer Equivalency Site (TES)provides CWU equivalencies for courses at other colleges and universities.

  • Completion of a direct transfer agreement (DTA) is preferred. No other specific courses are required prior to transfer for admission to the Sport Management major.
  • Transfer students with a completed DTA will likely complete this degree in six full-time quarters.
  • Any Washington State Direct Transfer Agreement (DTA) degree will satisfy all general education requirements.
  • Students must complete SPM 101 – Contemporary Sport Management before applying for the program.
  • Students must maintain a 2.75 (on a scale of 4.0) as a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) in the major’s course work.
  • Students must choose at least one of the four Sport Management specializations: (1) Sport Coaching; (2) Sport Business; (3) Recreation Management; or (4) Sport Communication.
  • Major requirements may change over time; students will be expected to meet the catalog requirements in place at the time they are admitted to the major.
