Business and Marketing Education Major, Bachelor of Science (BS)


Program Description

The study of teaching business, marketing, and information technology at the secondary level (grades 7-12). Students will learn teaching techniques and skills for success. Students will also study the content areas that are prominent in high school programs today. Students in the business and marketing education major must be admitted to the Teacher Certification Program and complete the Secondary Education Major Program as part of the Teacher Certification Program.

The Transfer Equivalency Site (TES)provides CWU equivalencies for courses at other colleges and universities.

  • Students are encouraged to attempt a reading, writing and math basic skills test before transferring to CWU.  This can be met by the SAT, ACT or a WEST-B test attempt.
  • Any Washington state DTA (Direct Transfer Agreement) degree will satisfy all general education requirements, but may not meet the Teacher Certification Program course pre-requisite requirements. Requirements can be found at Teacher Certification Program Admission.
  • Have a university-level cumulative GPA of at least 2.3 for full admission to this major and a 3.0 minimum cumulative GPA in the major to exit the program and to graduate from CWU with teacher certification.
  • Earn a minimum grade of C in each course counted toward fulfilling major requirements.
  • This major is required to take the Secondary Education Program.
  • Candidates admitted into the School of Education Teacher Certification Program are required to pass all courses with a C or higher, maintain a GPA of 3.0, and successfully pass Student Teaching Secondary, EFC 470, and Pedagogy Capstone, EFC 460.
  • Major requirements may change over time; students will be expected to meet the catalog requirements in place at the time they are admitted to the major.
