Breaks and Closings
Please reference the information below regarding residence hall breaks and closings. The information below will guide you through when the halls close, optional housing available, and dates for upcoming breaks and closings.
Fall Break 2025
Fall break begins Wednesday, November 26, 2025 and runs through Sunday, November 30, 2025. The residence halls remain open during this break. Dining will be offering limited hours at certain locations. Check out their times on the Dining Locations webpage.Winter Break 2025
Winter break starts Saturday, December 13, 2025 at noon and goes through Sunday, January 4, 2026 at noon. Sign-up for Winter Break Housing opens Thursday, Nov. 13, 2025, in the MyHousing portal. The location for Winter Break Housing 2025 will be announced in late November 2025.
All students must be out of the residence halls 24-hours after their last final or by noon on Saturday, December 13, 2025. Students may return to the residence halls on Sunday, January 4, 2026 at noon.

Winter Break Closing Checklist
Before you leave for Winter Break, please be sure to follow the checklist taped to your room door. Don't forget to:
- Move all belongings away from the heater in your room
- Close and lock all windows
- Close curtains and blinds
- Set thermostat to 66 degrees
- Unplug all appliances, except your microfridge
- Clean out all perishable food items
- Take all trash and recycling out to the proper receptacles outside your hall
- Take plants, fish, and bicycles home
- Turn off your lights and lock your door
- If you're leaving your car, move it to Lot N19 between Barto and the Music building

Winter Break Housing
Winter Break Housing applications open Thurs., Nov. 13, 2025!
Winter break housing is not a part of the regular housing contract, but is available to current residents, if needed. You must fill out the Winter Break Request application through MyHousing under Applications. The Winter Break Housing Application opens Nov. 13, 2025. For winter housing, students pack the belongings they need over the break and move to a temporary residence hall room from Saturday, December 13 at noon until Sunday, January 4 at noon. Once the halls reopen for Winter Quarter 2026, students in winter break housing will return to their original residence hall room.
The cost of winter break housing is:
- Double Room $450
- Single Room $575
- Pricing is for the entire break, regardless of how many days the student chooses to stay in residence.
The deadline to request Winter Break Housing is mid-December 2025 prior to the start of Winter Break.

Information for Students Not Returning for Winter Quarter
If you are NOT RETURNING to your residence hall room next quarter (not enrolled in classes, withdrawing, etc.), you MUST go to your MyHousing portal and under Applications select the Contract Cancellation Request form. Fill out the form and submit it. Housing Services will email you to let you know whether your request is accepted or denied.
If your request is accepted, email your Residence Hall Coordinator to schedule a check-out time. Failure to check out of your assigned room properly and by Saturday, December 13 at noon, will result in additional charges. If you need to withdraw from CWU during winter break, you can go to your MyHousing portal or contact Housing Services at 509-963-1831 to notify them and to schedule a check out over break.
Spring Break 2026
Spring Break 2026 is March 21-30, 2026. All residence halls and on-campus apartments remain open during Spring Break.Spring Quarter 2026 Closing
Spring Quarter closing is the end of the 2025-2026 Academic Year.
Residence Halls
The residence halls close for the end of the 2025-2026 academic year on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 12 noon. All residents must vacate for the summer unless they have signed up for summer housing.
To get ready for closing, residence hall students are asked to:
- Make a checkout appointment in your MyHousing portal. Appointments are first-come-first-serve, so residents are asked to make appointments early if they need a specific appointment time to accommodate for travel. You must make an appointment at least 48-hours in advance.
- Clean your room, remove all trash and recycling, and pack up your personal belongings.
- Don't forget to take home your bike and forward your mail, if you are expecting packages.
- Meet your RA at your room at your checkout appointment time. They will conduct a room inspection and collect your room and mailbox keys.

2025 Spring Quarter Closing Information for Residence Hall Residents (PDF)
On-Campus Apartments
Apartment residents that have not renewed their contract for the 2026-2027 academic year (year round option) will need to vacate by Saturday, June 20, 2025 at noon. This includes Anderson and Carmody Munro residents.
To get ready for their move-out day, apartment residents are asked to review the move out newsletter and checklist. All residents moving out of their apartment will need to make an appointment with an Apartment Manager through the MyHousing portal for their checkout time.

2025 Spring Quarter closing Information for Apartment Residents (PDF)
Summer Housing 2026
Summer Break Housing is available each year to on-campus residents who will be signed up for courses the fall after summer break. For more information, visit our Summer Break Housing webpage. Summer break housing starts Sunday, June 14, 2026 and can be extended up to the start of the Fall 2026 quarter for students enrolled for fall quarter.
