Why Study Theatre at CWU?

Our department produces several shows every season, both on the main stage and in studio workshops. These opportunities put classroom theory into practice and prepare you for future employment and internship opportunities. You are also encouraged to pursue off-campus experiences like teaching young, eager actors or stealing the show in community productions.

Degree Options

Our graduates find success after completing their degrees because of our reputation for excellence in education and production.

Learning the Performing Arts

Room to Perform

We support our students through multiple performance venues and practice spaces. Studio 119 serves as a classroom and rehearsal space, fully equipped with light and sound. McConnell Auditorium and the Milo Smith Tower Theatre provide a space for the culmination of your hard work, with the former seating 750 and the latter 200+!

Drama Teachers Unite

Our department hosts the Summer Institute for Theatre Arts every year—specifically designed for teachers. More than 500 teachers, representing more than 20 states and eight nations, have attended, learning new skills spread the theatre arts and networking with other theatre artists and educators from across the nation and the world.
