Program Options
Our department supports foundational courses needed to meet the academic requirements for certification through the Secondary Education major as well as background in instructional pedagogy. We also provide the opportunity for career advancement and an Alternative Route to Teaching program if you already have a bachelor's degree and want to get certified to become an educator in Washington State.
B. A. Educational Foundations Major
- The Educational Foundations Major prepaares prospective teachers to become facilitators of learning within the school and community.
- Designed to meet the needs of students who wish to have a background in instructional pedagogy, but who do not wish to complete the requirements for teaching certification.
- These courses work to increase participation by people of all levels of ability in all environments. An undergraduate minor or certificate and a graduate certificate are offered.
- All the courses needed to complete the requirements to qualify for a Library Media endorsement to a teaching certificate are offered through this program.
- This program offers a hybrid online alternative teacher certification program that can be completed in a year for individuals with a bachelor's degree.
Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction
- This program offers a graduate degree to a certified teacher seeking additional credentials in a focus area of their choice.
- This program is designed for those interested in working in administrative positions in institutions of higher education or civic, nonprofit, and national government organizations.
- This program prepares teachers for the residency principal's certificate. Can be combined with a Special Education Administrator Certificate, or the Residency Principal Certificate.
- These certificates prepare educational leaders to assume management and instructional responsibilities. Can be combined with a M.Ed. Program.
- This program provides placement and supervision during the field experience class and student teaching.
