Family and Consumer Sciences Education

Family & Consumer Sciences Education (FCSE) Teacher Preparation for Career & Technical Education is designed for students who are seeking teaching careers in FCSE at the secondary grade levels (7-12).

This program satisfies all requirements of the WA state CTE teaching endorsement for FCSE. The coursework provides experiences in the five FCS content areas (Family Economics, Housing, Foods and Nutrition, Clothing and Textiles, and Family Relationships/Child Development) and instructional pedagogy, including field experiences. This pathway is designed to prepare participants for CTE teacher certification and content endorsement. Students in the FCSE major must also be admitted to, and complete, the Secondary Education Major coursework as part of the Teacher Certification Program.

Family & Consumer Sciences Education Teacher Preparation Program Requirements

  2. Apply for Secondary Education Major

FCSE Minor:

The minor in FCSE allows you to explore the teaching area of Family and Consumer Sciences; however, does not cover the requirements for a teaching certificate. Students will cover content related to all areas of Family Consumer Sciences Education. This minor would be ideal for anyone wanting to work within FCS but not teach within middle and high schools.
