Business and Marketing Education


Business and Marketing Education Teacher Preparation for Career & Technical Education is designed for students who are seeking teaching careers in Business and Marketing Education at the secondary grade levels (7-12).

The coursework in this CTE provides experiences in the Business and Marketing Education (BME) content areas and instructional pedagogy, including field experiences that are designed to prepare participants for teacher certification and content endorsement. Students in the BME teaching major must also be admitted to, and complete, the Educational Foundations Major coursework as part of the Teacher Certification Program.

Business and Marketing Teacher Preparation Program Requirements

  1. Apply for BME Major 
  2. Apply for Educational Foundations Major
  3. Apply for Teacher Certification Program
  4. Successfully complete all course requirements with a minimum grade of C in each course counted toward fulfilling major requirements
  5. Hold a valid first aid card with CPR
  6. Student teach in a CTE-approved program
  7. Must meet all WA State teacher cert requirements
  8. Complete all requirements of both the BME and Secondary Education majors with a 3.0 minimum cumulative GPA to exit the programs and graduate from CWU with teacher certification

To obtain CTE certification through the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), teacher candidates must complete 2,000 hours of work experience related to business and/or marketing in the last 10 years. See The OSPI Website for more information.
