New Employee Duties
Required and Suggested First Steps for New CWU Staff
Welcome to the Central Washington University family! Check out the information below about our CWU campus locations as well as expectations of new employees prior to and on first day of employment.
Prior to First Day of Employment
- After you receive your login information, please complete part 1 of Form I-9 by doing the following:
- A CWU New Employee Ambassador will contact you to answer your questions. This Ambassador will help you find your way around campus on your first day.
- Watch your email for your Temporary Parking Pass and Campus Map
- Print the pass and map and bring them with you on your first day of employment.
- Watch the Welcome to CWU Video
- If you need a reasonable accommodation to carry out the responsibilities of your job, please contact Human Resources at

On First Day of Employment
- Please bring documentation to verify your identity and employment authorization to be completed at the New Employee Welcome.
- In accordance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, Form I-9 must be completed to prove identity and employment eligibility. As a condition of employment, Section 1 of Form I-9 must be completed no later than your first day of hire.
- Step 1: Login to MyCWU > Employee Tab > Personal > Complete and Submit I-9 Form > follow the instructions.
- Step 2: Bring verification documents to Human Resources by your third day of employment.
- If you are not located in Ellensburg, documents may be represented at a CWU Center. If you are out of the area, please call Human Resources at (509) 963-1202 for the closest location.
- *If you are an alien authorized to work in the United States, please go to the International Office (map) to verify your I-9.
- Meet your New Employee Ambassador at 8:00am in Mitchell Hall, First Floor.
Your ambassador will:- Take you to the Connection Card Office in Bouillon 104 to obtain your Connection Card
- Take you to the new Employee Welcome/Orientation Session at 8:30am
- Invite you to eat lunch together at 12pm
- Guide you on a tour of campus and stop at the following locations:
- HR in 1st floor Mitchell
- Barge Hall
- The Lock Shop
- Parking Services
- Your new work location
- Complete Form W-4
Login to MyCWU > Employee Tab > Payroll > W-4 Tax Information > follow instructions - Complete a Direct Deposit Form (suggested)
Login to MyCWU > Employee Tab> Payroll > Direct Deposit > follow instructions - Please see your supervisor for information regarding Time and Attendance training.
- If applicable, visit the Library (Circulation) to have patron record added to the Library system
- All CWU employees are required to take the following training courses:
- New Employee Welcome
- Treating People with Dignity and Respect
- Emergency Preparedness
