Lock Shop

About Us

The Lock Shop is responsible for the repair and maintenance of all locks (including combination locks) and other door hardware on campus; for re-keying buildings when required; and for the issuance and retrieval of campus keys. We support the Campus Key Procedure and the Key Risk Assessment Groups' efforts to keep CWU students, faculty, staff, and property safe and secure in regard to key issuance and irretrievable key situations.

Lock Shop Hours: By Appointment Only

Schedule an Appointment Online, use QR code, or email questions to keyshop@cwu.edu. The original completed key authorization and CWU ID is required at the time of the appointment for key issuance.

Key Returns
Contactless key return is available by drop slot or mail. To return keys in person use the drop slot located at the front of Jongeward. Place your keys in an envelope with your full name and CWU ID# to be credited for return. If you would like a receipt, include your email address and we will send a receipt when the return has been processed.

If you would like to return keys by mail it is recommended that you use either certified or registered mail. To return keys by mail send the keys along with your full name and CWU ID# in a bubble envelope to:

  • Annual Key Audit

For campus security, a Key Audit is completed yearly for all Faculty and Staff. Individuals that do not appear on this audit include: students, graduate assistants, and temporary employees. Also keys issued quarterly (like classroom keys) and keys issued to a departmental key box are not included on this Audit.

    FAQ's for Annual Key Audit

  • Lockout Procedures for Students

Students who lock themselves out of their rooms should attempt to contact their roommate(s) first. If the roommate is unavailable, contact hall staff to have another key temporarily issued. If hall staff are unavailable between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., contact the Residence Life Office at (509) 963-1323. After 7:00 p.m. and on weekends, contact the RA on call. Upon request, produce identification to verify occupancy. If a resident locks themselves out two or more times per quarter, there may be a referral to Student Rights and Responsibilities, fees, and termination of the Housing and Dining contract.

  • How do I get keys for CWU buildings?

To obtain keys to CWU buildings, you will need a completed "key authorization card". Bring the completed card, and picture identification, to the Lock Shop in the Jongeward building to pick up your keys.

  • Where is the Lock Shop?

The lock shop is located in the Jongeward building on the corner of 11th & Wildcat Way.

  • What do I do if I lose my keys?

The loss or disappearance of University keys should be reported to the Lock Shop and to your supervisor, chair or director immediately. The Lock Shop can be reached by calling 963-2917.

Public Safety and Police Services (campus police) should also be contacted because lost keys are often returned there. The campus police can be reached at 963-2958.

  • What should I do if I get locked out of the building?

If you are a CWU employee (faculty, staff or exempt) call campus police at 925-8535 or call 963-3000. Lock/Unlock of Academic Buildings (PDF)
