Accessibility at CWU

The ADA Coordinator is responsible for providing leadership across Central Washington University's (CWU) residential campus, university centers, and instructional sites in addressing and building access to campus programs, services, and activities.

Below are just a few of the resources to consider; however, there are many areas where faculty, staff, and all CWU community members can engage best practices to ensure access while building in accessibility features for broader inclusion. The ADA Coordinator is available to consult on these areas and others.

University Facilities

Facilities prioritizes all ADA and accessibility requests and works with Disability Services and Human Resources for specific accommodations. If you have any questions regarding CWU buildings, circulation, and the campus, please contact CWU Facilities.

CWU Ellensburg Campus and Center Campus Maps
For information on the location of ADA parking spaces and locations without wheelchair access, as well as elevators on campus, utilize the maps below for the main Ellensburg campus as well as the CWU Center locations.
1. CWU Main Ellensburg Campus
  - Utilize the online CWU campus map and select the appropriate "ADA Accessibility" or "Inclusivity & Diversity" options (e.g., Accessible Entrances and Restrooms, ADA Parking Spaces, Elevators, All-Gender Restrooms, Nursing Rooms).
2. CWU Des Moines (co-located on Highline College campus)
  - Utilize the Highline College interactive campus map and select appropriate options (e.g., Disabled Parking, Elevators, No Wheelchair Access, etc.).
3. CWU Lynwood (co-located on Edmonds College campus)
  - Utilize the Edmonds College interactive Google map and select appropriate options (e.g., Parking for people with disabilities).
4. CWU Pierce County (co-located on Pierce College Fort Steliacoom campus)
  - Utilize the Pierce College Fort Steliacoom campus map and building maps, using the key to find accessibility information (e.g., disability entrances and parking, elevators, etc.).
5. CWU Sammamish
  - A map of the building is not available; however, there are:
    
    Disabled parking spaces on the northside and westside of the building
    
    An ADA automatic door on the west entry of the building
    
    An elevator near the east entrance
    
    ADA desks in some first floor and second floor classrooms, as well as a height adjustable desk for faculty
    
    Changing stations in the first floor bathrooms
    
    General use offices that can be utilized as lactation spaces as needed
6. CWU Joint Base Lewis-McChord (within the David L. Stone Education Center)
  - A map of the David L. Stone Education Center is not available; however, the building has disabled parking, button operated front doors, elevator access, and a lactation space.
7. CWU Yakima (co-located on Yakima Valley College campus)
8. CWU Wenatchee (co-located on Wenatchee Valley College)
  - Utilize the Wenatchee Valley College campus map, using the key to find accessibility information (e.g., gender neutral bathrooms, handicap parking, lactation pods, etc.).
9. CWU Moses Lake (co-located on Big Bend Community College campus)
  - For accessibility information (e.g., disabled parking spaces and elevator locations) for CWU Moses Lake, contact the Accessibility Coordinator.
  - A lactation space is located in building 1400.

Teaching and Learning

Through the office of Multimodal Learning, CWU is proud to offer a variety of accessibility resources for faculty, including the resources outlined below as well as the Ally tool within Canvas to identify and help mediate accessibility. Faculty are encouraged to refer to the Accessibility module in the Instructor Resources Canvas course for continually updated information and guides.

Faculty Training

The office of Multimodal Learning offers a variety of faculty training in Universal Design for Learning, creating Accessible documents, and captioning instructional videos.

Multimodal Learning offers at least two introductory workshops on Universal Design per academic quarter. To learn more about these workshops, visit the office of Multimodal Learning "Faculty Workshops" page.
