Trainings
The Office of Health Promotion provides a variety of trainings to the campus community. We can also do customized trainings upon request. To request a training for your group or organization, please complete this web form.
Student-Focused Trainings
All student trainings provided by the Office of Health Promotion begin with a 45 minute Core Training Curriculum. This covers holistic wellbeing including mental health awareness, self care, recognizing limits, communicating boundaries, consent, and reducing risk while engaging in substance use. You also have the option to select an "add on" training for more specific topics that may enhance your audience's interests or roles. If you are requesting a presentation to replace a class session, please select the topics that would best fit your curriculum needs, we will reach out with timing considerations.
Conflict Communication (+45 minutes)
Learn practical tools to navigate everyday conflicts with empathy and clarity, focusing on nonviolent communication, boundary setting, and repair strategies that build stronger relationships.
Healthy Relationships (+30 minutes)
Explore what makes relationships healthy, including communication, trust, consent, and mutual respect, while reflecting on personal values and recognizing early warning signs of harm.
How to Help a Friend Who Discloses Interpersonal Violence (+30 minutes)
Gain skills and confidence to compassionately respond when someone shares an experience of interpersonal violence with a focus on validating, connecting to resources, and honoring the survivor’s autonomy.
Step Up! Bystander Intervention Training (+90 minutes)
This interactive training provides information about what it means to be an upstander (rather than a bystander) and challenges students to think critically about how they would step up in common problem situations, including: mental health concerns, substance misuse, interpersonal violence, and more. Step Up has been shown to improve college students' understanding of and feelings of self-efficacy related to when, where, and how to intervene when they encounter a problem.
Student Employee-Focused Training
Recognizing and Responding to Interpersonal Violence
This 60-minute training teaches student employees how to recognize interpersonal violence and harassment both at work and in their personal lives. Students will learn about trauma-informed response to disclosures of interpersonal violence, when it might be helpful to report this information to the university, and support resources.
Employee-Focused Training
Trauma-Informed Response to Disclosures Training for Employees
This training gives employees the skills to respond to disclosures of interpersonal violence in a trauma-informed manner. Employees will learn the basics of trauma and interpersonal violence, how to support students who have experienced interpersonal violence, and campus and community resources that can provide additional support. This training can be offered in a 30-minute, 60-minute, or 90-minute format.
Other Available CWU Trainings
RAD (Rape Aggression Defense) Training
RAD is a comprehensive, women-only course that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of hands-on self-defense training. The course is taught by a certified instructor and is designed for the average woman with no previous experience or background in physical skills training. To take the course, register for the PEF 132- Women’s Self Defense course.
Responsible Employee Training
The Office of Civil Rights Compliance (CRC) provides introductory Responsible Employee (RE) training, as well as advanced and special topic trainings. Responsible Employee trainings can be provided in-person or virtually, and generally review the prevalence of campus sexual violence, types of sexual misconduct, reporting options/requirements, as well as how to respond to disclosures in a trauma-informed way.
For more information about the Responsible Employee role, as well as trainings available, visit the Civil Rights Compliance - Responsible Employee website.
