Guaranteed Admissions
Guaranteed Admission for First Year Applicants at Central Washington University for 2026-27
CWU is committed to expanding access to higher education.
Our Guaranteed Admission pathways help you feel confident in your college plans, whether you’re applying straight from high school or transferring from another institution.
Guaranteed Admission for First-Year Applicants
Central Washington University offers guaranteed conditional admission to high school seniors who:
- Graduate with a cumulative unweighted high school GPA of 2.75 or higher, and
- Meet the College Academic Distribution Requirements (CADRs) when final transcripts are received.
(CADR details are available through the Washington Student Achievement Council.)
What does guaranteed admission mean?
If you meet the GPA requirement and graduate from high school, you’ll be automatically admitted to CWU once your CADRs are verified.
Why does CWU offer guaranteed admission?
We believe in access, opportunity, and clear pathways to higher education. Guaranteed admission helps students plan confidently and reduces the stress of the application process.
Does guaranteed admission include admission to a major?
No. Guaranteed admission applies to university admission only. Some majors, such as Professional Pilot or Music, have selective entrance requirements.
How should guaranteed admission factor into college planning?
A strong college list includes at least one school where admission is very likely. If you meet CWU’s criteria, you can consider CWU a secure option as you plan your future.
If you don’t meet the criteria, you can still apply through our holistic review, including an optional personal statement.
How can I confirm if I qualify?
You can meet one-on-one with a CWU Admissions Counselor who will review your academics, confirm your eligibility, and guide you through next steps. Counselors also offer free application workshops with personalized support.
Guaranteed Admission for Transfer Applicants
CWU also guarantees admission for students who have attended another college or university after high school or GED completion and meet at least one of the following:
- 40+ transferable quarter credits and a 2.5+ GPA, or
- An associate’s degree or 90+ quarter credits with a 2.0+ GPA
What does guaranteed transfer admission mean?
If you meet the credit and GPA thresholds, you are guaranteed admission to CWU and can choose from any of our locations—including Ellensburg, our University Centers, and our Online campus.
Why does CWU offer guaranteed admission for transfers?
Transferring can feel complex. Guaranteed admission provides clarity and reassurance so you can plan your academic path with confidence.
Does guaranteed admission include entrance to a major?
No. University admission and major admission are separate.
Most majors at CWU have a straightforward entry process, but some, such as Professional Pilot and Music, are more selective.
How should guaranteed admission factor into transfer planning?
Knowing you have a guaranteed offer removes uncertainty—especially if you’re also applying to schools with more competitive or unpredictable admission processes.
If you don’t meet the criteria, you can still apply through CWU’s holistic admission review.
How can I get support during the transfer process?
You can meet one-on-one with a CWU Transfer Counselor for an individualized academic review, confirmation of eligibility, and guidance on next steps. Counselors also offer free application workshops to help you apply confidently and at no cost.
