Prerequisites:

A minimum of one year of contracted teaching experience in a P-12 classroom setting is required for full admission to the Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction. Students who lack this experience may be conditionally admitted.

When to Apply:

Admissions is rolling (apply any quarter). Application for admission should be made before the first quarter of graduate-level work. The catalog is explicit for dates of application for admission, and the student must be aware of and adhere to the published deadline.

Application Process:

The following constitute the criteria used by the Department of Curriculum, Supervision, and Educational Leadership in assessing applications for admission to a graduate program:

1. The academic transcript is evaluated for overall strength, progress, and improvement. The requirement of a minimum 3.0 GPA for the last 90 quarter hours (60 semester hours) of graded work must be met for admission for full standing. Generally, the transcript must show "B" or better work in courses most closely related to the applicant's intended area of specialization.
2. Three letters of recommendation from persons knowledgeable about the applicant's academic, professional, and personal qualifications.
3. Written statement of educational objectives and professional aims.
4. A teaching degree from an accredited university.
5. An approved teaching certificate or will be applying for teacher certification.

Q: How is the Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction Program delivered?

A: While all of the MEd in Curriculum and Instruction courses are taught online, the area of emphasis courses from another department may not be fully online. Students are advised to consult with their area of emphasis department to determine the mode of delivery for these courses.

Q: Is the Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction Program expensive?

A: The M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction at Central Washington University is affordable compared to the cost of other public colleges and universities in Washington.

Q: How long will it take me to complete the program?

A: The MEd in Curriculum and Instruction courses are offered every quarter, including summer. The program is 48 credit hours. How long it takes to complete the program depends upon the individual student, but it is possible to complete the program in as little as a year and a half including two summer quarters.
