Required Training
CWU has a zero-tolerance position on all forms of discrimination, harassment, and other inappropriate workplace behavior. In order to highlight the importance of this, the University's stance is that all university employees partake in mandatory trainings, which includes student employees.
The training courses below are required (CWU Policy 301-23).

Required for Faculty and Permanent Staff

Understanding FERPA and Reporting (15 to 45 minutes online, depending on level of access; 60 minutes in person)
Description: The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) outlines the rights of students and their families with respect to the confidentiality of and access to education records kept by institutions. This course will provide employees of CWU awareness-level training on their responsibilities and obligations under FERPA.
In addition, the course covers basic information regarding Responsible Reporting at CWU.
When to Take
Annually

Emergency Preparedness (30 to 60 minutes, depending on mode of instruction)
Description: In this course, you'll learn about ways to prepare and respond to emergencies and disasters. You'll also be introduced to the best ways to respond to specific natural and manmade emergencies and disasters.
When to Take
Once every two years.

Preventing Harassment and Discrimination (60-180 minutes, depending on role & mode of instruction)
Description: This course will prepare learners and leaders to cultivate and maintain a workplace culture resistant to discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.
When to Take
Once every two years.

Ethics in Public Service (75 minutes)
Description: This course provides a basic understanding of the ethical standards in place for state employees and officials. It covers what is required as a state employee under Ethics in Public Service law (RCW 42.52) and corresponding rules (WAC 292).
When to Take
Once every three years.

- New Faculty Information

** Faculty Onboarding Online Course (45 minutes)
** This course is required of new faculty who did not attend New Faculty Orientation in the fall.
Description: This onboarding course is to welcome new faculty, help them acclimate to the work environment at CWU, and provide them with the necessary resources and information they need to start contributing to the mission of CWU.
When to Take
First day of employment.
FACULTY ONBOARDING: DIRECT LINK -
Additional for Academic Department Chairs
Description: This online course provides information you need to know regarding your role as an academic department chair. You will learn about your responsibilities as a supervisor, mandatory reporting, performance management, dealing with conflict, progressive discipline, understanding the landscape at CWU, and supervisor resources.
When to Take
Within your first 30 days of becoming a Chair who supervises employees.

Additional for Supervisors
Employees, including faculty members, appointed to supervisor or management positions must successfully complete supervisor onboarding as soon as possible within six (6) months of the date of appointment to a supervisor or manager position. CWU 301-23: Training and Development policy
Supervisor Onboarding
- CWU Supervisor Quick Start (30 minutes)
- Supervising at CWU (4 hours weekly for 4 weeks; total of 16 hours)
- Sign into MyCWU > |Learning| tab > Search for Supervising at CWU > Enroll in an upcoming session
- CWU Leadership Journey
- Select one of the following Leadership Journeys to complete. (Each journey is approximately 8 hours.) Leadership Journeys may be replaced with independent learning on approval of supervisor.

Description: The Student Employment Onboarding course will prepare you for your new role by covering the following:
- Important information related to your position
- Safety and Emergency Preparedness at CWU

- Where to go for help
