Canvas Help and Support for Students

About Canvas

Canvas, CWU's Learning Management System (LMS) is essential to participating in your online courses. Canvas allows you to engage with your classmates via instructor-provided discussion boards, communicate regularly with your instructor via Canvas Messenger, review your grades and complete assignments and quizzes. The below guides and links will help you get familiar with Canvas to interact live and on your own time with classes, and provide help for questions or issues you might have during use.

Online Test Taking in Canvas

Academic integrity is an integral part of your online student experience. As such, instructors might ask you to complete quizzes and exams through Canvas exclusively. Before beginning a test, always ensure you have access to a secure testing location, desktop computer or laptop, and consistent internet connection. Webcams and microphones may also be required, and you should rely on instructor instructions for course-specific directions.

If you experience Canvas lock-outs when taking Canvas quiz, here are a few suggestions to help cut down on them:

  • Do not wait until the last minute to take exams; if you experience technical problems they will take time to be resolved.
  • Close all windows on the computer and then launch a new window to login to Canvas.
  • Close other applications before taking the quiz/test.
  • Use a wired high-speed connection; a wireless connection will work, but is not recommended.
  • Do the Browser Test before taking the quiz/test
  • Review the Supported Browsers for Canvas
  • Do not navigate to other locations or applications in Canvas after the test opens.
  • Do not click "Submit" until you have completed the test.
  • Do not use any of the browser navigation buttons (i.e. Back, Forward, Home, etc.)
  • Turn off Popup blockers.
  • If you are locked out of a test, please contact your instructor immediately, or follow instructions given by your instructor.
