Teacher Certification
Initial Teaching Certificate
All CWU undergraduate teaching programs lead to Washington Residency Teacher Certificate. Candidates must complete a major in a specific subject area (Endorsement Major) and a education foundations major (Certification Major) to be eligible for a Washington certificate. Candidates have the option to add an Endorsement Minor to demonstrate specialized skills.
Your Certification Major provides you with the tools and methods to be a successful educator and your Endorsement Major prepares you in the content necessary to teach your chosen subject.
Certification Majors
- Secondary Education is typically paired with non math or science endorsements at the middle school and high school levels. If Early Childhood or Special Education is your only endorsement major, you will also complete this certification option.
- Teach STEM is typically paired with an math or science endorsements.
- Elementary Education is the only major that does not require and additional program because the requirements of both are integrated. If you are interested in double majoring in Elementary Education and an additional endorsement, then Elementary Education will serve this purpose.
