Education Program Requirements

In addition to the University’s General Education requirements and Department of Education requirements, students must complete the following coursework. It should be noted that many courses require prerequisites. It is imperative that each student meets with his or her faculty advisor each quarter prior to registration. Note that there are two degree options available: the Technology Education Broad Area and the Technology Education Major.

This Bachelor of Science Teaching major satisfies the endorsement for Technology Education (5-12). The technology education program prepares you to teach technology-based courses at the middle school and high school levels. Students selecting this major must also complete CHEM 111, MATH 153, and PHYS 111, as well as the professional education program requirements. This major requires students to also earn a minor in a field commonly taught in public schools.

A degree in Technology Education can launch your career in a high-demand field. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, Washington State is highly ranked in pay for middle school teachers, with a mean annual wage of $83,460.00.



Highlights

In 2018 Matt Johnson was the recipient of The Washington ACTE Teacher of the Year Award. This award goes to the finest Career and Technical Education teachers at the middle/secondary school level who have demonstrated innovation in the classroom, commitment to their students, and dedication to the improvement of CTE in their institutions and communities.

Johnson graduated from the Technology Education Program in 2010 and is now serving as the Manufacturing and Technology teacher at Snohomish High School.
