About the Bilingual and English Language Learners (ELL) Education Program

Our program embraces creating a nurturing environment for every learner and is designed to prepare teachers to effectively teach in K-12 classrooms with bilingual and English language learners. In our classes you are equipped with the linguistic tools your students need to express their thoughts and embrace their unique cultural identities. Graduates of this program will be eligible for K-12 add-on endorsements in Bilingual Education and English Language Learner, opening doors to fulfilling teaching opportunities that celebrate linguistic and cultural diversity.

Graduates of this program are equipped with the expertise to implement culturally responsive approaches and assessment methods tailored to the unique needs of English Language Learners, making a positive impact on their students’ educational outcomes.

  • Bilingual/ELL Teacher: You can specialize in teaching ELL, providing language support, and work in both general education and specialized bilingual/ELL programs.
  • Program Coordinator: Consider working as a program coordinator or specialist in bilingual/ELL education. You would develop and implement programs for English language learners and educators.
  • Multicultural Education Specialist: As a Multicultural Education Specialist, you would work to promote inclusivity, cultural responsiveness, and equity in educational settings, both developing and implementing strategies to create positive school climates.

CWU’s School of Education is one of the oldest in the state of Washington, having been founded in 1891. Offering teacher education programs at Central’s Ellensburg, Yakima, Wenatchee, Pierce, and Des Moines campuses, CWU prepares teachers in more than thirty content areas, from preschool to high school.
