Shirley Joan Cook Undergraduate Research Fund
Award Description
The Shirley Joan Cook Undergraduate Research Fund was established through the generosity of Shirley Joan Cook, a 1957 graduate of Central Washington College of Education, now Central Washington University. The purpose of the fund is to promote excellence in undergraduate scientific research in botany and other areas under the supervision of CWU faculty in the Department of Biological Sciences.
Award:
Up to $500 for supplies & equipment
Application Deadline: March 1st
Eligibility:
- This award supports botanical research and other areas conducted by undergraduate students in the Department of Biological Sciences
- Supervised by CWU faculty in the Department of Biological Sciences
- Participation in the annual spring undergraduate research symposium (SOURCE)

Please submit the application materials to the Department of Biological Sciences Office via email to biology@cwu.edu by the deadline. Email or call the office at 509.963.2731 if you have any questions.

A Project Description
In 1 page, double spaced, 12-pt font to include the following sections:
- Project goals and objectives
- Clear statement of methodology/research design
- Literature Cited or References (not included in 1-page limitation)
Budget
- An itemized and prioritized list of supplies and/or analyses in real, total costs
- If you are purchasing equipment, describe where it will reside once your work is complete (equipment purchased with grant funds belongs to the university, not to the grant recipient)
- For all expenses, provide the basis for the cost estimates (online catalog links are fine, vendor quotes, etc.)
- If your expenses total more than the amount you are requesting, please indicate other sources of funding received and/or requested for the project, or how you plan to cover those additional expenses
