About the Office of Student Rights & Responsibilities
The Office of Student Rights & Responsibilities provides a comprehensive array of resources, education, and crisis management services to support student success and development in alignment with Central Washington University’s mission and values. The office is responsible for educating students about their rights and responsibilities as members of the CWU community, upholding community standards, and implementing the Student Conduct Code.
Mission
The Office of Student Rights & Responsibilities supports CWU’s community by responding to concerns related to student behavior. An educational lens is used to develop intentional interventions in collaboration with community partners while purposely considering due process, individual students’ circumstances, and the CWU community at large.
We work to reduce bias and discrimination throughout our processes and interventions while helping students become inclusive intentional members of a diverse society.
Vision
Helping students to grow while developing a safe and healthy university community and ensuring unbiased and equitable student conduct processes and outcomes.
Diversity Statement
The Office of Student Rights & Responsibilities is committed to supporting and promoting the importance of varying identities and perspectives throughout CWU community. We recognize that the student conduct process can mirror the inequitable and unjust criminal justice system. As an office, we are committed to continual personal and professional growth related to diversity, equity, and inclusion and the impacts our process has at all levels. Through our dedication to this work, we aim for ongoing commitments to:
- Work to reduce bias and inequitable outcomes through annual assessment of student conduct data and trends
- Acknowledge unconscious bias and actively seek to recognize and deconstruct personal biases through ongoing staff and hearing officer trainings and professional development
- Work diligently every day to help build a university community that is free from bias and is equitable for all.
