Welcome to World Languages and Cultures

On this page you will find in-depth look at our undergraduate programs. The full list of our Major and Minor Programs is on the left hand menu or at the bottom of this page for mobile users.

Our department offers liberal arts degrees in languages and cultures that promote linguistic proficiency, cultural competence, and regional expertise. Here are some highlights of what you can expect.

Easy Paths to Graduation

  • Our major programs are between 47 and 57 credits and require a minor. The lower number of credits makes it easier to double major and to graduate.
  • We collaborate with other programs on cross-listed courses, so it is easier to double major.

Accessible and Affordable Education

  • ASL, French, Russian, and Spanish Programs can be completed in person or online.
  • All lower division courses (100-200 level) are offered in person and online.
  • All programs have no cost or low cost textbooks and other materials.

Language Immersion

  • Our department offers many study abroad options of different lengths in all languages but ASL.
  • We offer other opportunities for language immersion via virtual exchanges (Spanish), community service learning (ASL and Spanish), and exchange student peer program (Japanese).

Community and Resources

  • We offer language learning support for students through Resource Centers and PALs tutoring.
  • We are home to several student clubs, and organize many fun cultural events during the year.
  • We prioritize hands-on learning, and offer practical and community-oriented learning options in different programs - contact program coordinators for more details.
