Teaching English Language Learners (TELL) Minor

“They don’t speak English very well. What do I do?” This question is being asked more often by teachers in all areas of Washington State.  Within one year of beginning this minor, you will be ready to answer that question.The TELL minor prepares you to work with K-12 students in the Washington State public schools, whose first language is not English.  Upon completion of the TELL Minor you will be eligible for a Washington State add-on endorsement for English Language Learner (ELL). While the Bilingual Education/TESL minor leads to a bilingual education endorsement, the TELL minor leads to the English Language Learners endorsement.

Program Requirements

  • Candidates must be conditionally admitted to the CWU Teacher Certification Program or have a signed non-certification waiver letter on file before admission to the program.
  • Candidates may take EDBL 312, EDBL 318, and/or EDBL 438 before admission to the program.
  • EDBL 492 requires that EDBL 430, EDBL 438, EDBL 439, and EDBL 440 be completed before enrollment.
