Program Description

Cultural and Educational Intersections: Educational Technologies for K-12 in Turkey and the US (EdTech & Culture in Turkey), students will learn about recent developments and appropriate instructional use of educational technologies in k-12 settings in the US and Turkey. Students at Hacetteppe University in Ankara, Turkey and Central Washington State University in Ellensburg, Washington, USA will learn together about educational technologies and engaging diverse learners together in synchronous and asynchronous online seminars prior to the American students studying in Turkey. Next, CWU students will travel to Ankara, Turkey and attend seminars with Turkish students at Haceteppe University. Together, these Turkish and American students will

  • study educational technologies and culturally congruent pedagogy while learning/sharing about their home cultures
  • visit k-12 and university-level courses that use educational technologies to observe their applications
  • collaborate on the development of education lessons plans for use in their future classes

After the study abroad, students will meet online once for a cumulative learning experience.

American students will also learn about Turkish culture and history through diverse excursions with their Turkish buddy and faculty.

Courses and Credits

Students will registrar for EFC 492 (5 credits) this faculty led study abroad experience during the summer 2020 6-week term. These credits may be used for
  • ELEF 332 (2 credits) (a requirement in the Elementary Education major)
  • EFC 416 (3 credits) (a requirement in the Secondary Education major)
