Macau Teaching Experience CTL

Study in Macau!

CWU Center for Teaching and Learning offers a quarter long field opportunity for all teacher candidates at the Hou Kong Premier School in Macau, China.

CWU students are each assigned to an English speaking cooperating teacher and teach all day, five days per week, in a K-12 Macau classroom of 25-30 children. A CWU student’s primary responsibility is to teach English, however, there are many opportunities to teach across the disciplines. CWU students are carefully matched with cooperating teachers, and are placed at grade levels according to their endorsement area and interest.

The program is valued for its exposure to cultural diversity, the opportunity to work with English language learners, and for offering an intensive experience with all practical aspects of the teaching profession, both in the classroom, as a teacher, and outside the classroom, preparing lessons and as a professional colleague.

CWU students live on site in apartments provided by the Hou Kong School. They are given a generous stipend for meals and expenses, and are reimbursed for half of their airfare. The school is located in a friendly neighborhood with parks, restaurants and shopping nearby. CWU students have the opportunity to travel in and around Asia on weekends and over school holidays. Hong Kong is a one-hour ferry ride away. Many students take the opportunity to travel to Beijing, Thailand, and Indonesia during the quarter.
