International Studies Minor
International Studies Minor
The International Studies Minor provides a structured interdisciplinary oppportunity for students to develop the analytical skills necessary to understand and evaluate the contemporary international system, facilitates research and creative activities that focus on international issues, provides opportunities to directly engage in meaningful cross-national interactions and encourages the apprehension of the fundamental commonalities as well as rich diversities that characterize the modern world system.

Required Core Courses (15 Credits)

Education Abroad/International Education Requirement (3 Credits)
In addition to the above core requirements, students in the International Studies Minor are required to earn at least three (3) credits on an approved education abroad program. Any class, regardless of topic, taken as part of such a program may satisfy this requirement.
While matriculated international students are certainly encouraged to consider education abroad--perhaps in a third country--during their time at CWU, upon request, exceptions may be granted to count another domestic course toward this requirement.

In addition to the 18 credits of requirments, students in the International Studies Minor must complete 18 credits of approved electives.

- POSC 470 - Contemporary Issues in International Relations (3-5 Credits)
- PUBH 317 - Global Health Issues and Solutions (4 Credits)
- SOC 326 - Social Demography (5 Credits)
- SOC 371 - Globalization (5 Credits)
- WGSS 498 - Special Topics (1-6 Credits)
- WLC 311 - Popular Cultures of the World (1-6 Credits)
Other CWU Electives
There is no expectation that the above list encompasses all potentially qualifying courses. New and Special Topics courses with topics fitting the minor will not be captured above. Therefore, with approval, additional CWU courses may be counted as electives via substitution. Students should submit a copy of the full syllabus with their request.Education Abroad Electives
