Teaching Opportunities


Are you an industry professional who wants to share your knowledge and skill with other adult learners? Do you have teaching experience and are an expert in your field?

CWU Continuing Education provides lifelong learning opportunities, education, and training for all ages. Exciting, convenient, and affordable public programs meet the needs of those wanting to explore and continue their education. With a huge variety of programming, Continuing Education is constantly looking to hire new instructors.

We accepting proposals to develop courses in a variety of topics offered at the CWU Ellensburg campus, at the CWU-Sammamish campus, or in an online format. Primary responsibility is to lead instruction for classes in the categories listed below:

  • Personal Enrichment (Life & Leisure)
  • Youth Programs
  • Career & Workforce Development
  • Workforce Training
  • Corporate Training
  • Professional Development for K-12 Educators
Required materials (as well as any required materials listed in the course proposal form):
  • Your completed Course Proposal Form (Can be found below)
  • Your resume or curriculum vitae
  • Please read and sign the last page of the CE Instructor Handbook
Deadlines For Submission

Deadlines for submission are:

  • Fall Quarter: May 1
  • Winter Quarter: August 1
  • Spring Quarter: December 1
  • Summer Session: Feburary 1
Review Process

Within a month of receiving your submission, we will review the proposal. If we feel your course fits our community's needs, we will contact you to discuss the development of the course or program further.

Please note:

All CE programming requires a course evaluation form be provided to each participant. You as the instructor will be responsible for the distribution and collection of the CE Evaluation Form at the end of your course and for providing those forms to CE. CE will provide you with the Evaluation Form to be used.

The price per clock hour is $4.00. And our department has a $15.00 minimum for clock hour purchases.

Course Proposal Forms

Continuing Education coursework must be educational in nature and have direct linkage to the University’s mission and an academic unit within CWU. To ensure quality programming, all CE courses are thoroughly vetted. CE will need to receive a completed course proposal form and your resume or curriculum vitae. CE also requires course evaluation forms from each participant at the conclusion of class.

The four types of programming CE offers are:

  • Non-Credit Personal Enrichment
  • Clock Hours
  • Continuing Education Units
  • 500 Level Professional Development Credit

Non-Credit Personal Enrichment Courses

Personal enrichment classes are designed for anyone in the community. They are non-credit and broad in offerings from creative courses to technology and recreation.

Clock Hours

Clock hours are designed for teachers to use for certification renewal and/or salary advancement. Subject matter for these courses are focused on academic content or pedagogy.

500 Level University Credit provides university credit that will generate a transcript for workshops, conferences, seminars, etc.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs)

Continuing education units, or CEUs, are used primarily by professional organizations and societies in conjunction with conferences, workshops, seminars, etc. Common uses of CEUs are to record refresher, transitional, or knowledge improvement accomplishments.
