Secondary (High School) Majors


Prepare for a high demand job by becoming a science or math teacher. You will enjoy a fulfilling career with many employment options. As a teacher, you can share your love of science or math and make a difference in your community.

In Washington, as a secondary teacher you will receive certification to teach grades 5-12, but most teach at the high school level: grades 9-12.  If you are interested in teaching middle school, consider the Middle-Level Science major or Middle-Level Math major. 

In order to become a secondary teacher you need to double major in STEM Teaching Program and one of the majors listed below: 

  • Applied Mathematics
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Computer Science
  • Environmental Studies: Geology
  • Environmental Geological Sciences
  • Geology
  • Secondary Mathematics
  • Physics
