Why choose to minor in Science Education?

  • Science leaders are in high demand nationwide. Many schools and other organizations are hiring elementary science leaders and specialists.
  • Learn science the way you will teach it in your classroom: through engaging, hands-on activities that build your content and teaching skills at the same time.
  • Get experience teaching science in real K-8 classrooms. Kids are natural scientists, and you’ll find teaching science rewarding and fun!
  • It's only 17-18 credits in addition to the Elementary Education major requirements.

This K-8 minor is open to students in any education major, as well as other students as appropriate. This minor is not endorsable, but will prepare students to be high-demand science leaders in schools. In addition, students who have another certification (such as Elementary Education) and pass the NES in Middle Level Science can add an endorsement in Middle Level Science.
