At the intersection of science, mathematics, and education, CWU’s Teach STEM program prepares students for high-demand teaching positions across the country.

Led by award-winning faculty, students in this program practice teaching in the classroom from day one. The Teach STEM program partners with schools statewide to create meaningful connections and networking opportunities, allowing students to be supported throughout their teaching career. Students emerge from this program as digitally savvy and equitable teachers equipped to lead future generations of middle and high school students.

Scholarship and Funding Opportunities 


Whether you're just starting or preparing to student teach, there are funding opportunities to help you along the way. Explore a range of scholarships, grants, and paid research experiences designed to support your journey.

Science Education Scholarships 

Elliott Family Scholarship: You can receive $1,000 or more as a Secondary or Middle-Level Science or Math Teaching Major.

Howard Family Scholarship: This scholarship awards $1,000 or more if you’re a Secondary or Middle-Level Science or Math Teaching Major with a 3.5 GPA or higher and demonstrated financial need. 

National Scholarships 

TEACH Grant: You can get up to $4,000 per year by committing to teach in a low-income school for 4 years after graduation; apply through the financial aid office. 

AFCEA Educational Foundation STEM Teaching Scholarship: You can earn up to $5,000 to support your path as a future STEM educator. 

Physics Teaching Scholarship (Barbara Lotze Scholarship): If you’re studying to become a physics teacher, you can receive up to $2,000.

Washington State Scholarships 

Washington State Opportunity Scholarship: You could receive $2,500 or more as a Secondary or Middle-Level Science Teaching Major if you demonstrate financial need. 

Paid Summer Research Programs 

Science Undergraduate Laboratory Program (DOE National Labs): You can participate in a 10-week paid summer research opportunity at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Washington State. 

Physics Research Experience for Undergraduates (UW Bothell): This 8-week program offers a $5,600 stipend and up to $600 for travel if you’ve completed an introductory physics sequence. 

Research Experiences for Undergraduates in Mathematics (Oregon State University): You can join this 7-week program, which provides a $3,600 stipend, $750 for travel, and $1,500 for housing and subsistence.
