The Cultural and Environmental Resource Management (CERM) graduate program at CWU is a highly interdisciplinary program with a focus on environmental, cultural, and economic resource management.
At CWU, our in-person, hands-on program bridges the Geography and Anthropology departments, while also drawing upon economics, law, and policy to provide a truly interdisciplinary experience.

The CWU Difference
As a CERM student, you'll benefit from faculty expertise in fields such as biological and cultural anthropology, archaeology, biogeography, cultural resource management, environmental justice, paleoecology, geomorphology, environmental law, GIScience, and more. Gain hands-on fieldwork experience and collaborate with cultural and natural resource agencies, Tribal organizations, and private companies—preparing you for impactful careers and leadership roles in your chosen field.
Two Degrees to Choose From
The CERM Master of Science: This 60-credit interdisciplinary degree emphasizes the understanding of problems and approaches utilized in the management of both cultural and environmental resources. It includes a basic core of 29 credits, as well as elective courses in specialty areas of cultural, environmental, and economic resource management. The degree also requires the successful completion of an original research project and a written thesis.
The CERM Master of Applied Science Degree: This 45-credit degree is a flexible and personalized professional degree program that will enhance applied skill sets for working resource management professionals and individuals seeking employment in cultural, natural, and/or economic resource-related fields. You’ll be immersed in a solid background of interdisciplinary resource management-focused coursework and includes the completion of an applied project as the culminating experience.
