Legislative Funding and Teacher Residency Scholarships

Investing in Washington's Future Educators

Washington State has recognized the importance of developing innovative pathways into the teaching profession, particularly in areas experiencing persistent teacher shortages.

Central Washington University has received legislative support to develop and expand Grow Your Own teacher preparation initiatives designed to address regional educator workforce needs.

These investments have helped support alternative pathways into teaching, strengthen partnerships between universities and school districts, and create opportunities for individuals to pursue teaching careers within their own communities.

Supporting Grow Your Own Initiatives

CWU's Grow Your Own initiatives are designed to expand access to teacher preparation, particularly in high-need endorsement areas such as elementary education, special education, bilingual education, and English language learner education.

By partnering with local school districts, CWU works to create pathways for individuals already connected to their schools and communities to become certified teachers.

Financial Support for Teacher Residents.

Financial support is an important component of the Teacher Residency Program.

CWU scholarships help reduce the financial barriers associated with completing graduate coursework while participating in an extended classroom internship.

Participating mentor teachers also receive compensation from CWU in recognition of the important role they play in preparing future educators.

A Collaborative Investment

Teacher residencies represent a shared investment in the future of Washington's educator workforce. Through legislative support, university resources, and school district partnerships, CWU and its partners work together to develop sustainable pathways into teaching.
