CWU MAT Residency Admissions Requirements
Preparing for Admission to the Teacher Residency Program
Individuals interested in becoming teacher residents must meet CWU's admission requirements for the Master of Arts in Teaching program, as well as the additional requirements associated with the Teacher Residency Program.
Minimum Admissions Requirements
According to the current program information, applicants must:
- Hold a bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution.
- Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher in the last two years of full-time study.
- Complete the required WEST-B subtests in reading, writing, and mathematics, or meet an approved alternative.
- Receive a recommendation from a CWU district partner.
Additional Residency Considerations
Teacher residents complete an extended classroom internship in a partner school district. Applicants must be able to participate in the required internship experience while completing their academic coursework.
Teacher residents cannot serve as teachers of record during the residency but may continue working as paraeducators when internship arrangements allow.
Degree and Certification:
All teacher residents complete the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree with Washington State teaching certification.
How to Apply
Applicants should begin by connecting with a participating district partner and discussing potential residency opportunities.
Prospective applicants can also contact CWU's MAT program for information about university admission requirements, application procedures, and upcoming application deadlines.
