Barry Goldwater Scholarship

The Barry Goldwater Scholarship is designed to attract outstanding students into research careers in mathematics, the natural sciences, and engineering. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit to students who are sophomores or juniors during the current academic year and who have excellent academic records and demonstrated interest in and potential for research careers in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering. The scholarship covers undergraduate eligible expenses for tuition, fees, books, and room and board to a maximum of $7,500 per academic year.

Chemistry Department Awarded Scholarships

Each year chemistry department faculty award several scholarships to chemistry majors. To be considered for any of these scholarships, students must complete a General Scholarship Application, available from the CWU Scholarship office in Barge 102 or online at Scholarships. Good luck!

Jerry & Gail Jones Alumni Scholarship

Recipients are selected by a committee from the Chemistry Department. Must be classified as an upper-division student and have a 3.25 GPA prior to receiving this scholarship and maintain a 3.0 GPA during the course of the scholarship.

Dorothy Dean Memorial Chemistry Scholarship

To apply toward tuition, fees, and books.

Recipients are selected by Chemistry Department faculty. Must be of junior or senior status, have at least a 3.0 GPA and be a declared chemistry major.

Mathematics Department Awarded Scholarships

Dale & Mary Jo Comstock Scholarship

Admitted mathematics major (Bachelor of Arts: Mathematics or Bachelor of Science: Mathematics) at the junior or senior level with strong record of scholarship and excellent references from faculty. Contact Chris Black for more information.

Bill Owen Actuarial Scholarship

Admitted actuarial science major at the junior or senior level with strong academic record. Chosen from among junior and senior actuarial science majors by the actuarial science faculty. Contact Dr. Kathryn Temple for more information.

McNair Scholars Program

American Chemical Society - $2,500

For Freshmen and Sophomores- up to $3,000 for Juniors and Seniors. This program is designed to encourage African-American, Hispanic/Latino, American Indian and Alaskan Native students to pursue undergraduate college degrees in the chemical sciences. Applications typically due February 15.

Sunnfjord - $300

Must be of Norwegian heritage, a sophomore or junior and majoring in chemistry, English, geology, geography, industrial education, mathematics, physics, science education, or participant in the Douglas Honors College. Applications typically due in June.

Anonymous Scholarship in Literature and Science - Two-Year Full Tuition and Fees

A combination of literature or world language and natural science or mathematics, and sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student at CWU. Applications typically due in June.

Dennis W. Farrell Pre-Medicine Scholarship - Tuition, Fees, and Books

Awarded to superior and successful sophomores, juniors or seniors with a declared pre-medicine major. Must have a least a 3.5 GPA in the sciences, be of good character, show leadership ability and altruistic activities in his/her community, on campus, and with fellow students. Students may apply or be nominated by faculty. Applications typically due spring quarter.

Cind M. Treser Memorial Scholarship - $1,500 Washington State Environmental Health Association

Formerly known as the Ed Pickett Memorial Scholarship. Students must have an interest in pursuing a career in environmental health in the state of Washington. Applications typically due in March.
