Biology Facilities

Housed within the Science Building on Ellensburg's campus, the Department of Biological Sciences is home to undergraduate, graduate and faculty research projects quite varied in nature and design.  Faculty members utilize individualized research spaces, a shared vivarium, and specialized equipment to conduct their own experiments and support students in their research interests.

Fully equipped teaching labs can be found on all three floors of the Science Building, but our teaching and research spaces also extend beyond the brick and mortar. Classes and youth field trip groups can explore the ecosystem of Engelhorn Pond and the Marshall W. Mayberry Arboretum.  Our Biology Greenhouse hosts weekly open hours where the visitors and CWU community members alike can survey unique plants and meet our resident tortoise.

We are also fortunate to be located in an area that is home to an abundance of nature.  Our local habitats bear rich examples for hands on lab instruction taking place outdoors throughout the year.  Our faculty and students work with a number of state and local agencies on projects aimed to teach our students, but also assist in advancing knowledge of the region.
