CWU Biology Greenhouse

Take a Trip Around the (Plant) World

Plants within the Biology Greenhouse come from all over the world--from the southwestern desert to tropical rain forests.

Biology Greenhouse manager, Linnea Stavney, talks about a group of plants on a table in the CWU Biology Greenhouse, as students in black cwu "jumpstart weekend" t-shirts listen to her.

The CWU greenhouse facility is composed of four separate rooms or "houses". Each room has a different environment:

Jungle Room

The Jungle Room recreates a tropical jungle environment, with specimens planted in the ground rather than in pots. This room contains several edible plants, including Mexican breadfruit, bananas, and figs.

Research Room

The Research Room is available for faculty, staff, and students to carry out research projects.

Desert Room

The Desert Room simulates a desert environment. You will find many different species of Euphorbs, cacti, aloes and agaves in this room.
The plants living here do not need to be watered as frequently because they are adapted to arid conditions.

Tropical Room

The Tropical Room contains potted plants in a tropical environment. Many bromeliads, air plants, ferns and orchids can be found in this room.

Come For A Visit

Visiting hours are every Friday, 1:00-3:00 pm. We have plants available with donation, and you can say hello to our resident tortoise, Snorkel.

Group Tours

Our greenhouse is also utilized for faculty and student projects, classroom visits and tour groups.
Please contact both Linnea Stavney (Greenhouse Manager) and Dannica Price (CWU College of the Sciences Engagement Program Manager) if you are interested in scheduling a tour for your group.

The greenhouse is located off of University Way, north on Wildcat Way in front of Dean Hall, (next to the Science Building).
