Engelhorn Pond
CWU received Engelhorn Pond as a nature preserve in 1968, with the purpose of research and conservation of the wildlife habitat. CWU Biological Sciences Department has maintained stewardship of the pond since 1976. Enhancing the pond additions of a native plant garden and an observation dock, the Biological Sciences Department utilizes the pond for biology classes, tour groups, and individual research projects. Lifeforms seen at Engelhorn Pond include many different species of birds, turtles, amphibians, zooplankton, amphipods (scuds), aquatic invertebrates, snails, leeches and many protozoans.
