Central Washington University is proud to host Congresswoman Kim Schrier on Thursday, June 1, for a town hall from 6-7 p.m.
The 8th Congressional District U.S. representative will speak to approximately 40 constituents from around the region. If you have questions about the town hall, you may contact her office on her official website.
Schrier is familiar with the CWU campus, having participated in two congressional debates in 2020 and 2022 in McConnell Auditorium.
She was first elected to Congress in 2018 and was re-elected to a third term last fall. She represents Washington's 8th Congressional District, which includes much of King, Pierce, Kittitas, Chelan, and Snohomish Counties, and a small portion of Douglas County.
Before running for public office, Schrier served as a pediatrician in Issaquah, working with children across the Puget Sound region and helping families navigate the health care system. In Congress, she uses this expertise to inform her work on issues that improve the lives, health, and well-being of children.
She says on her website that her experience as a medical professional gives her a unique understanding of the needs and struggles facing 8th District families.
In January, her office announced that she had held her 100th town hall in four years, noting that this milestone reflects Schrier's commitment to constituent services.
"It is an honor to serve this district and I'm thrilled to have visited every corner of this district, holding town halls in every county, multiple times," she said. "I believe that I have a track record that shows the residents of this district that no matter what party is in charge, I will go to bat for them. I look forward to many more town halls in the coming months and learning what issues are affecting people's lives right now."
In addition to participating in 100 town halls over four years, Rep. Schrier's office also has brought back over $22 million to 8th District families and businesses, including $13.9 million alone in 2022.
CWU benefited from Schrier's work during the fall 2022 congressional budget talks, when she helped secure $1 million to upgrade the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system in the Student Medical Center.
The award, which was included in the Community Funding Program portion of the federal government's fiscal year 2023 budget, will help fund state-of-the-art, medical-grade air filtration as part of ongoing renovations to the SMC.
