The CWU Lion Rock Visiting Writers Series will continue Thursday, February 15, with a presentation by award-winning author and poet Juliet Patterson.

The two-part event will take place in the Student Commons at Brooks Library with a craft talk at noon titled “A Writer's Exploration of Form, Genre and Grief.” Patterson will return at 6 p.m. to for a public reading from her memoir, Sinkhole: A Legacy of Suicide.

CWU Professor Katharine Whitcomb will provide an introduction, and a book signing will follow the reading. Those who cannot attend in person may also participate in the event virtually, by registering at the links provided on the CWU events calendar.

Patterson teaches creative writing and literature at St. Olaf College in Minnesota, and is also a faculty member and director of the college’s Environmental Conversations program.

Her memoir, Sinkhole: A Legacy of Suicide, was a finalist for the 2023 Minnesota Book Awards and named one of the best memoirs of 2022 by Library Journal. She has also published two full-length poetry collections, Threnody and The Truant Lover.

Due to the sensitive subject matter, a counselor from CWU Student Counseling Services will be available at the 6 p.m. event to meet with anyone who needs emotional support.

The events are sponsored by the CWU English Department, CWU Libraries, and Jerrol's. Both are free and open to the public.

If you have questions, email Assistant Professor of English Ali Ünal at ali.unal@cwu.edu.
