Central Washington University will join institutions around the state for the Great Washington ShakeOut on Thursday, October 15.

The CWU Resilience Rally, sponsored by the Office of Emergency Management and the Information Technology Management (ITM) department, will take place at exactly 10:16 a.m.

At that time, faculty, staff, and students will participate in a “drop, cover, and hold on” drill, followed by ITM student-led stations that will explore the university’s preparedness level and take the Resilience Challenge. ITM faculty will also be involved in the training exercise.

The goal of the CWU Resilience Rally is to help Wildcats understand their role, build a preparedness kit, verify contact information, and support each other in an emergency.

The Great Washington ShakeOut is part of International ShakeOut Day, when millions of people worldwide participate in earthquake drills at work, school, and home. The CWU community will be joining people across Washington for the safety drill, which varies by state and institution.

ShakeOut Day is also a time for communities to test their tsunami evacuation routes. The state’s tsunami sirens will also be tested on Thursday.
