Six Wildcat football players honored for academic success

Six Central Washington University Football student-athletes have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Football Team.
Slade Edwards and Tyler Flanagan were named to the All-District Team for the second-straight year, while Chase Coalson, Darrell Duckett, Axel Isackson, and Kennedy McGill were all recognized for the first time, according to an article on WildcatSports.com.
With their selections, Edwards and Flanagan qualified to move on to possibly be selected to the CSC Academic All-America Teams, which will be announced January 28. Flanagan earned Second Team Academic All-American honors last season.
The 2024 Academic All-District Football Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average at his current institution.
Below are brief bios on each of the 2024 selections from CWU:
- Edwards is earning his degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology and has a 3.81 GPA. He has been recognized as one of the best centers in NCAA Division II having been named a Don Hansen All-American, D2CCA Super Region 4, Lone Star Conference (LSC) Offensive Lineman of the Year, and First Team All-LSC during the 2024 season.
- Flanagan holds a 3.91 GPA in his master's in Occupational Safety and Health Management program. He has been recognized as a member of the D2CCA Super Region 4, LSC Offensive Back of the Year, and First Team All-LSC. Flanagan concluded his stellar Wildcat career with a second-straight 1,000-yard season and finished tied at the top of the LSC in rushing touchdowns with 14.
- Coalson currently owns a 3.54 GPA in Exercise Science. The Honorable Mention All-LSC member finished as the third-leading tackler for CWU with 49 total tackles, 19 solo and 36 assisted.
- Duckett has a 3.61 GPA in Exercise Science and has been a staple along the offensive line since transferring to CWU last season. The Honorable Mention All-LSC member was crucial in helping the 'Cats have one of the top rushing attacks in Division II.
- Isackson owns a 3.72 GPA in Business Administration. The Honorable Mention All-LSC wrapped up his career starting all 12 games in 2024.
- McGill has a 3.93 GPA in Sport Management. The honorable mention all-LSC member had a stellar first season as the full-time starter proving to be a dual-threat quarterback, throwing for 1,724 yards with 15 touchdowns. He also led the 'Cats with 1,206 rushing yards and added 12 touchdowns on the ground.
