This Thursday, October 3, Central Washington University will host An Evening with Cheech Marin: A Life of Art, Culture, and Entertainment, in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.

The event is free and will be held at the McIntyre Music building at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30.

Marin is an actor, director, writer, musician, art collector, and humanitarian who is revered as a multi-generational talent. Widely acknowledged as a cultural icon, he is best known as one half of the hilariously irreverent, satirical, counterculture comedy duo Cheech and Chong. Aside from his successful entertainment career, Marin — more commonly known as “Cheech” — is recognized today as a preeminent advocate for Chicano art.

Marin’s talk will feature audience discussion about his journey through the entertainment world, and the importance of his activism in shining a spotlight on the art created by Mexican Americans like himself.

Marin’s collection of Chicano art has been on display in museums across the country, and he continues to advocate for its importance in the cultural narrative of the U.S.

More information about Thursday’s event is available through the Diversity and Equity Center. If you have questions, email diversity@cwu.edu.
