David L. Boushey Scholarship

David Boushey graduated from Central Washington University in 1969 with a B.A. in Recreation and Social Science. David is the founder of the Society of American Fight Directors and the United Stuntmen's Association. Instructor/Coordinator for the International Stunt School, and Treasurer to the International Order of the Sword & Pen. David has choreographed over 400 stage productions and 45 feature films in a 30 year career as a "Fight Director" and "Stunt Coordinator". Some of his films include "Hand that Rocks the Cradle", "Blue Velvet", "Drugstore Cowboy", "Northern Exposure" "Twin Peaks", "X-Files" and "Highlander". Winner of the Los Angeles Critics Award in 1981, 1985 and 1991 for Best Fight Choreography, David is a member of the Hollywood Stuntmen's Hall of Fame. He is the only American to choreograph the entire Shakespeare Canon. Presently, he runs the foremost Stunt School in North America.

Nature of the Award

The purpose of the endowment is to provide a scholarship award based on the following criteria:

  • Student must be enrolled full-time at CWU and have declared a major in Theatre Arts or be an incoming student, with a strongly documented interest in theatre and intending to pursue a theatre major.
  • Student must exhibit proficiency, talent, and commitment to theatre through the areas of acting, directing and movement based on faculty recommendation.
  • Preference will be for students who demonstrate financial need.
  • Preference will be for the award to alternate between female and male students

The award is presented at an appropriate public event, such as the Department awards banquet.
