What is the Teacher Academies? 

Currently, in Washington state, only 11.9% of teachers identify as teachers of color. Meanwhile, 46.6% of students in Washington schools come from racially diverse backgrounds. Studies have shown, that there are a plethora of benefits for students of color who are taught by teachers of color:

  • Boosting overall academic performance
  • Improving reading and math test scores
  • Improving graduation rates
  • Increasing aspirations to attend college
  • Reducing the number of absences
