- Prior to your First visit at SHS, you must visit the Patient Portal, click on the Forms tab, and complete all required paperwork. Failure to do so may result in your appointment being rescheduled. Insurance Billing
Students are also required to complete the Student Health Services (SHS) insurance information form on the Patient Portal. We require a copy of the front and back of your current medical insurance ID card to submit medical insurance claims on your behalf. We strongly encourage you to always carry a copy of your insurance card*. Handwritten insurance information cannot be accepted in place of your card. We will accept faxed copies of insurance ID cards.
The Student Medical and Counseling Fee, which appears on the student's quarterly tuition bill, helps cover the operational costs of the clinic. If for some reason the student has not been charged the fee, the fee will be billed to the student account at the time of their first visit.
All office visits, medical procedures, diagnostic tests, and treatments are billed to students’ insurance company. Effective January 1, 2025, all copays, deductibles, coinsurance, and balances after insurance for covered services are billed to the student account.
Express STI Clinic appointments and Emergency Contraception are FREE for all students and not billed to insurance or the student account.
All services deemed not medically necessary or not covered by insurance are the sole responsibility of the student. Student Health Services will provide a Good Faith Estimate in writing to students prior to receiving non-covered services. The student will need to sign the form accepting responsibility for the charges to receive the services. Non-covered services will be billed to the student account.
Effective January 1, 2025, all fees for services rendered to non-insured students will be billed to their student account.
Students who do not have medical insurance may call Student Health Services and request an appointment with one of our staff who are Certified HealthPlanFinder Navigators and can help students apply for free health insurance under WA Apple Health.
Student Health Services bills most major health insurance plans. Our office will file claims to your insurer if we have all the required documents on file. Students are encouraged to provide their valid health insurance information at the time of registration and check-in to facilitate the billing process.
For your privacy, all charges will appear on your CWU account as “Student Health Services.” -
How do students pay for charges?
- Any service deemed not medically necessary, or not covered by insurance, are the sole responsibility of the student and will be billed to the CWU Student Account.
- By policy, any charges to Student Accounts will be settled before the end of the quarter. You will not receive a bill by mail for charges incurred at SHS. All charges are posted on the Patient Portal.
- Student Heath Services will never refuse services to a student without an insurance card or healthcare coverage.
-
Who is responsible for payment?
If you are 18 years of age or older, you are legally responsible for your charges. If you are under the age of 18, your parents or legal guardians are responsible for payment. Although our staff is here to assist you with any billing and insurance related questions, you should be familiar with the specifics of your particular coverage such as co-payments, deductibles and covered vs. non-covered services.
