Are you interested in designing your own Bachelor of Science degree?
Earning an interdisciplinary degree in the social sciences allows just that. Our graduates find employment because they were able to build on their strengths and expand knowledge areas relevant to their future profession. In this program, you have the rare opportunity to blend majors and add minors of your choice. For example, you may take courses from psychology, law, political science, and history to create a major that supports your career and educational ambitions. Work in a variety of career fields including social work, law, therapy, environmental policy, public health, to name just a few.

Carolynn Pursley is committed, spirited, with lifelong learning objectives. These qualities are valued and promoted in the Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS)- Social Sciences degree program. Carolynn grew up in a military family, lived and traveled extensively throughout the U.S., ultimately settling in Yakima. She transferred from Yakima Valley College with an associate’s degree to continue studies at CWU. Her disabilities forced her to confront numerous obstacles successfully. She is goal oriented toward achieving her dreams while raising a family and holding down two part time jobs.
Carolynn has a GPA of 3.96 and is graduating this quarter with her major in IDS- Social Sciences and a minor in Psychology. Throughout her time at Central, Carolynn dedicated herself toward success in her studies, while also volunteering to provide support and advocacy for people in the Deaf community. Carolyn intends to turn this volunteer experience into a paid professional position after graduation. Once she gains some experience, graduate school is going to be her next step.
