The Africana and Black Studies minor offers interdisciplinary study of the historical, cultural, economic, and political institutions that affect people of African ancestry, particularly Black Americans. The program also emphasizes how people of African ancestry have changed and shaped these institutions. Offering courses in disciplines across CWU colleges, ABS prepares global citizens equipped with a sense of social consciousness, social responsibility, and social justice.
Through interdisciplinary study and innovative learning experiences, students prepare for life in a changing world. Africana and Black Studies embodies the university’s commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and equity. Students from diverse backgrounds, faculty across disciplines, and Student Life professionals come together to create an intellectual and physical space for the study and advancement of knowledge about Black America, Africa, and the African diaspora.
