Instructional Coaching Certificate:  

The CWU Instructional Coaching Graduate Certificate will prepare you to confidently take on or refine your role as an instructional mentor and/or coach. With the combination of your current expertise and experience plus the addition of the Instructional Coaching Certificate, you will be poised to make an impact improving instructional practices and student achievement in the K-Gr12 setting.

 Quick Facts:  

  • This 15-credit Graduate Certificate is a post-master program.  
  • All courses are offered asynchronously online with candidates completing the practical portion of the course in their site settings.  

Admission Requirements: 

  • All candidates must possess 
    • three years of teaching experience 
    • a master’s degree in an education field

Washington Employees Admission Waiver:

  • If you are a certified educator employed in Washington, you may be eligible to get your class fees waived during the Fall, Winter, and Spring Quarters!
  • You can view the WA state employee benefit form here.

 Starting Quarters:  

  • You can start the certification program in the Fall, Spring or Summer quarter. The required classes offered each quarter are outlined below.

Required Courses:  

Spring: EDBL 550 Advanced Literacy Development with Linguistically Diverse Students (3 CR) 

  • Description: Reading instruction for K-12 students who are speakers of a language other than English. Linguistic theory and information for developing and implementing strategies and techniques for literacy acquisition in English. 

Summer: EDLT 520 Curriculum Design and Delivery (3 CR) 

  • Description: An in-depth research-based analysis of curriculum design and delivery in K-12 settings.  

Summer: EDLT 523 Issues and Trends in Instructional Coaching Research (3 CR)  

  • Description: Identification and in-depth study of issues and trends related to instruction.  Recent research is pursued with emphasis on classroom application in K-12 settings. 

Fall: EDLT 521 Instructional Coaching and Leadership (3 CR) 

  • Description: Exploring leadership in K-12 settings including research-based practices in coaching, supervision, program organization, grant writing, and professional development. Practical experiences will be conducted in the candidate’s school/district setting.  

Winter: EDLT 522 Instructional Coaching and Data-Oriented Change (3 CR) 

  • Description: Using data to make instructional change through instructional coaching in K-12 settings. Practical experiences will be conducted in the candidate’s school/district setting.

Apply Today:

  • Step 1: Complete the CWU Instructional Coaching Certificate Interest form
  • Step 2: Once you have filled out the above form and have heard back from the Instructional Coaching Certificate Coordinator that you meet the minimum requirements, you will then apply to CWU use the Non-Matriculated link provided here.   Non-Matric Application.   There is a $40 application fee.
  • Step 3: Once admitted, you will fill out this application form (using your CWU email) to provide documentation of the minimum requirements (e.g., transcripts, proof of teaching experience, teaching certificate).
